PLAYER↴ Name: Hazel Contact: Other Characters: N/A CHARACTER↴ Character Name: Yuugi Mutou Age: 18 Species: human Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh! (original series) Canon Point: post canon, pre-Darkside of Dimensions, including Bonds Beyond Time Character Info: here @ YGO wikia Personality: Looking at Yuugi Mutou, he doesn't appear to be much - being 5'1" in height isn't very intimidating, nor does he want to be. He's a very kind hearted person and even though he grows more courageous and confident though the course of the series, he doesn't change much in the way of what he values. Even with rivals like Kaiba and enemies like Pegasus, he's able to put aside their differences with him and work with them for the greater good. He's polite - using suffixes like kun and san - and doesn't like violence, something which is addressed in the first arc of the manga. Even though Yuugi has been traumatized through bullying, been betrayed by people he thought were trustworthy, he's willing to see the good in everyone. He can forgive and will give someone a second chance easily, even a third chance if you're Bakura and Malik. He's willing to stick his hand out and accept others even if they have been enemies in the past, like Ryuji Otogi. Some might call him a pushover, but he's not passive in his acceptance of things that happen to him. Like in Duelist Kingdom where he took back control of his body after Yami was willing to sacrifice Kaiba in order to save Sugoroku's soul, it's explicitly stated that Yuugi calls the shots, and the minute he gets uncomfortable with that, Yami ceases to have control over his body. His body, his rules. Yuugi asks Yami to take over, or consents to a request by Yami when things get out of hand. They're in sync in that way, and Yuugi knows what's happening, planned for it to happen, and steps in to stop it when he feels like a line has been crossed. Yuugi might be a pacifist, but he's not weak by any means. Yuugi takes sharing a body in stride after the initial fear of being unable to control what's happening. Not only is trusting in himself a key component, but also trusting in the others around him and the "other self" that appeared. In spite of everything, Yuugi has faith in others, and in the cards, and it's this faith that gets him through even the toughest of times. Yami and Yuugi quickly grow close and he even lets the spirit use their body to go on a "date" with Anzu, to get him out a bit more so to speak (despite the fact that he does, indeed, have a crush on her - and she in turn has a crush on Yami - he doesn't appear to be jealous since the "date" is a mutual agreement and arrangement on both their parts). Yuugi's soul room is a reflection of his personality at the beginning of the series - naive and childish, toys scattered around like a child's playroom. He's presented as quite innocent and childlike but is extremely stubborn and willful, getting back up after being beaten within an inch of his life by Ushio and worrying about Jounouchi and Honda more than his own safety. His friends are always first and foremost on Yuugi's mind, and as the series progresses he becomes more confident and comes out of his shell, something reflected by his Battle City attire (seriously, what kid wears leather?). Despite being a bit of a brilliant strategist when it comes to dueling, he has very low test scores, along with Jounouchi and Honda, and in the very same chapter this bit of info is provided to us, he's shown to be more interested in creating a bingo game out of the test score chart than the actual test scores. Speaking of his relationship with his friends, Jounouchi is an example of how Yuugi has the ability to inspire others. Jounouchi was a delinquent, and one of the people that used to bully Yuugi, even taking one of the puzzle pieces before he could complete it. Standing up for him against Ushio and getting beaten up alongside him made Jounouchi not only change his mind about Yuugi, but as the series progresses, they become strong friends, to the point where every time their friendship is tested, both of them pull through for the other. Yuugi got through to Jounouchi under Malik's control by reminding him of that bond, and Jounouchi immediately jumped into the water to save him. Yuugi gives Jounouchi the inspiration to be a better person than he can be, for both his friends and his little sister. Kaiba, in contrast to Jounouchi, is a character Yuugi constantly clashes with, even when they're on the same side. During the season 0 arc, Kaiba attempted to gain Yuugi's trust, lure him into a false sense of security, and even held his grandfather hostage, all in order to get the fourth Blue Eyes White Dragon, and then put him and his friends under a strenuous "game" in his compound called Death T just for a rematch. To say nothing of the balcony scene in Duelist Kingdom, where Yuugi stopped Yami from attacking and forfeited the match so Kaiba could live after putting his own life in danger. Still, Yuugi trusts Kaiba to pull through when it counts, and he hasn't been proven wrong. Even though Kaiba doesn't consider them friends, Yuugi at least considers them allies. Post canon, not much about Yuugi has changed, but he is far more confident and heroic than he used to be. While he's no longer shy and timid, he's still caring and thoughtful, even if sometimes his selflessness gets in the way of saying what he really wants to say (i.e: feeling guilty about wanting Atem to stay while he rearranges his deck for the ceremonial duel). He might be a little hesitant about being without the spirit of the puzzle, but his story is just beginning. Abilities: Yuugi is a pretty normal human, even with his uncanny knack for games of all types and his interactions with spirits and the whole shadow games thing. There's nothing magical about him nope. CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: Yuugi's soul is a royal azure. As Atem doesn't currently share his body, there's no need for any other colours. Ideal Jobs: game operator (top choice); agent; cashier Relevant Experience: Aside from the obvious title of King of Games, Yuugi works for his grandfather in the Kame Game Shop, and thus has experience in your regular areas of retail (cash, dealing with customers, etc.). He's not a stranger to selling games to people and being, well, used for promotions by others. Yuugi has a passion for games of all sorts, not just Duel Monsters, so of course he would definitely feel most at home in the Gamer's Circle. After spending years co-inhabiting his own body and his interactions with others, Yuugi knows how to work his way around spirits, and the harder people to deal with, like Kaiba and Yami Bakura. Reason for Joining: Well, running away to join the circus hadn't exactly been the plan. After seeing Atem through to the afterlife post ceremonial duel, Yuugi just wanted a break. A break from everything, which included stepping back from dueling for a while, to get used to the empty feeling inside. Having another person's spirit attached to your body for a good few years will do that. And so - around the time the carnival rolled into town - Sugoroku practically shoved his grandson out the door and told him to get out instead of moping around the house. Yuugi, rather unwittingly, finds the reality warp while running from a gang of thugs. After paying the admission fee and wandering around, the carnival turned out to be the perfect place, so his contract was directly of his own volition. A year and a day to grow into his own without relying on others and to get used to being without Atem. SAMPLES↴ sample 1 sample 2, both @ the tdm! |
